Over 50 of our residents were featured in a recent article on the Daily Herald on July 30th highlighting their work filling backpacks for local students in need. The group, who is comprised of 18 retired teachers and principals, filled 100 backpacks with $2,500 worth of supplies, and even included notes with words of wisdom and well wishes for the kids.
Resident Robert Otis was quoted: “The backpack project is one of the many Hearthwood activities that helps us actively participate in community life,” he said. “It brings back memories of freshly scrubbed first graders on their first day of school. And the shy little guy who put an apple on my desk and whispered, ‘My mommy said to give you this.’”
Under the umbrella of “Hearthwood Helps,” this back to school initiative is just one of the many ways we continue to give back to our local community. To read the full story, check out the Daily Herald.
