When Hearthwood opened its doors 18 years ago, Chris Hall was one of the very first residents to move in. 61 and still working at the time, she wanted to take full advantage of our thriving lifestyle and all the amazing amenities our 56-acre campus has to offer, like the indoor swimming pool, beauty salon, arts and crafts studio, and restaurant-style dining.
“The one word I use to describe it is home,” she says. “This is living in a community in a neighborhood under one roof.”
Chris also wanted to expand her social life. “I’m not the kind of person that likes to be sitting in a room by myself,” she says, drawn to Hearthwood for our ever-growing calendar of clubs, classes, and community events. However, she still has opportunities for a quiet afternoon in. “It’s totally up to me,” she says. “You can be as active or as quiet as you want to be.”
Now 79, Chris continues to enjoy Hearthwood’s active lifestyle (accompanied by Yoda, her chihuahua-mix rescue), while also having the support and care she needs, if and when she needs it.
If she could give one piece of advice to other seniors, it would be this: “I would like people to give very serious thought to not being so singularly focused on, ‘I have to live in my home. I cannot give this up,’” she says. “If you wait and you put it off until you absolutely have to, you’ve missed out on a lot.”
